Pharmaceutical production has little tolerance for variability, and water is one of the hardest contaminants to control. Drying and conveying decisions affect particle levels, label adhesion, inspection results and the cleanliness of the production area. SCB supplies air knife drying systems and compressed-air conveying equipment configured for these requirements.

Drying and Conveying in Pharmaceutical Production

Two airflow duties dominate pharmaceutical lines: removing water from containers and components after washing, and moving powders, granules or small parts between stages. Both can be handled with compressed air, but the equipment and the air quality requirements differ. Drying needs a uniform curtain across the conveyor; conveying needs a controlled vacuum and a clean, oil-free air supply.

Vials, Ampoules and Infusion Containers

After washing, vials, ampoules and infusion containers carry water on the body, shoulder and base. A top knife alone rarely clears the base, so side knives are angled in the direction of travel. Stainless steel construction and filtered air supply are normally specified, and the knife layout is set so that every container receives the same treatment regardless of its position on the conveyor.

Powder and Granule Conveying with Compressed Air

Pneumatic conveying moves powders, granules, pellets and small components through pipes without mechanical handling. The system is selected around the material, the conveying distance and the required rate. Filtration and clean air are important where the product is sensitive to contamination, and the discharge point is configured to avoid damage to fragile material.

Cleanliness, Filtration and Documentation

Equipment for pharmaceutical lines is specified with stainless steel bodies, removable brackets for cleaning and filtered air supply. Where required, material certificates, motor efficiency data and test records are supplied with the quotation. The objective is equipment that can be cleaned, documented and maintained within the existing quality system.
